Pro-Optics is a Chicago-based manufacturer of Optical Accessories and Ophthalmic Consumables. Our company started in 1965 when our founder and his father created the Ad-A-Pad™, a then-revolutionary product allowing for seamless and permanent non-intrusive height adjustment of acetate eyeglass frames. Shortly thereafter, Pro-Optics began to manufacture several other novel Ophthalmic products for professional use.
In 1974 Pro-Optics outgrew its original location in Park Ridge, Illinois and moved to a newly built facility in Palatine, Illinois. Around the same time, we began manufacturing high-quality eyewear accessories typically found in local eyeglass shops. Popular items at the time included our professional Eyeglass Lens Cleaners, the original Pro-Spec Holder™ eyeglass retainer for athletics, and the Color Cord™ eyewear retainer for boating, skiing, and casual use.
The founder observed customers were eager to purchase our products outside traditional optical channels and began packaging them for retail sale under the brand name Optic Shop™. After a brisk period of growth, Pro-Optics doubled the size of their facility in 1976 and doubled it again in 1978.
Following nearly a decade of success in retail, Pro-Optics acquired Optik-Aids®, a competing brand of optical accessories owned by Allergan Pharmaceuticals. The combined companies were consolidated into Pro-Optics’ facility and quickly became the nation’s best-selling Eyeglass Accessories in Drug Stores, Grocery Stores, and Mass Merchandisers. Growing demand from both professional and retail customers required Pro-Optics to double the size of its building once again in 1985 to ensure adequate manufacturing capacity was available for the foreseeable future.
In the 1990’s Pro-Optics identified the growing trend of Private Label (Store Brand) products and partnered with the nation’s leading retailers to create innovative and effective Eye & Ear Care Planograms, helping to build loyalty and trust among shoppers.
In 2013 Pro-Optics was acquired by a new management group committed to continuing the founder’s vision of manufacturing high-quality, American made products offering consumers quality, convenience, effectiveness, and value.
Recognizing several synergies and an overlapping customer base, Pro-Optics’ new ownership completed the acquisition of Schaeffer-Vicron Optical in 2016. Known for manufacturing the industry’s best Post-Mydriatic (dilation) glasses, slip-ins, and roll-ups, Schaeffer-Vicron brought over 12,000 new professional customers to the Pro-Optics family.
Today, with over fifty-years of experience, Pro-Optics continues to take great pride in being a partner and domestic manufacturer for America’s largest retailers, prominent Medical Systems, and most trusted National Brands. We distinguish ourselves with attentive customer service, flexibility in manufacturing, quick lead times, and high quality products.
